Personality:
Upon first impression, Keith gives off an almost stereotypical bad boy vibe. He’s a young man of few words, known to his classmates at the Galaxy Garrison as the best pilot of his generation. The kind of guy who wears tight black t-shirts and has a mullet that he somehow, against all odds, actually makes look cool. He wears an absurdly large knife on his belt, drives a hover-motorcycle, and was expelled from his school due to discipline issues… and then decided to go live in a shack in the desert with a conspiracy corkboard and red string covering the walls.
Wait, now things are getting weird.
Anyway, it turns out that once you get to know Keith, he’s a little more complicated than all that. Maybe less of a tortured bad boy and more of a socially awkward jock. He comes across as terse and distant, but at least some of that is because he’s genuinely not a great conversationalist. Some obvious jokes and pop culture references sail right over his head (like Lance’s attempt at starting a team cheer: “I say Vol, you say--” to which Keith responded with a bewildered “Vol... tron?”), and it’s reasonable to extrapolate that between his short temper and social isolation from a young age, he just never had the chance to develop normal teenage social skills. It doesn’t help that, probably for much the same reason, he’s instinctively suspicious of strangers and people whose intentions he doesn’t know; however, once you earn his trust, Keith is relatively friendly, albeit often in a slightly stiff and uncertain way.
And despite his serious nature, Keith is capable of loosening up and taking part in his team’s antics… at least some of the time. He’s joined in during food fights and friendly skirmishes, and even laughed at some of Hunk’s goofier slapstick jokes. Even his often-antagonistic relationship with Lance is sometimes openly playful (for example, Keith saving Lance’s Lion from being stolen by space pirates, then grinning and pretending his radio was cutting out when Lance asked Keith to help him out of his handcuffs). Still, it’s rare that Keith makes an effort to lighten a mood on his own — rare enough that Hunk was startled when Keith made a joke to ease the tension between the two of them. Mostly he keeps to sarcastic quips and quiet, dry humor.
Which isn’t to downplay his temper. Keith’s specialty in physical combat is the blade, and it suits his personality just as well as his fire-themed Lion does. He’s straightforward and single-minded, and honest with his emotions even when that leads to explosive outbursts. His competitive nature and short temper make him easy to rile up, and he’s quick to rise to Lance’s jabs and challenges. He hates backing down from a fight, and is more likely to tackle a challenge head-on and rely on his instincts to get him through it… which makes him a phenomenal fighter pilot, but has, on more than one occasion, left him stranded in space and relying on his Lion for rescue. In one notably reckless display, he tried to take on Zarkon singlehandedly, shutting off his Lion’s communication systems in his Lion to ignore the warnings being shouted at him. And there have been times when Keith’s ruthlessness has even surprised his teammates, like as the time he took an engineer hostage and threatened him with death in order to secure his team’s escape.
Although he might give off the impression of someone with little interest in making friends (read: a grumpy jerk), Keith desperately wants to be part of a team. His feelings were visibly (if comically) hurt when Lance didn’t remember their “bonding moment” in the heat of battle. He places enormous value on both his teammates and their mission, and is quick to defend them even if it means putting himself in harm’s way. Notably, he was willing to walk away from the chance to learn more about his mysterious past when it became clear that it meant a choice between himself and his role as a Paladin of Voltron. Their trust means a great deal to him; when Allura became suspicious of him after his Galra heritage was revealed, he accepted her reasons for mistrusting him, but took on an impossibly dangerous mission in order to reaffirm his loyalty to the team.
The other side of Keith’s absolute devotion to being a Paladin his his single-minded focus on their mission. Although he’s typically reckless and quick to leap headfirst into a fight, he was the only one to suggest that they leave Allura when she was captured by the Galra rather than attack them with Voltron, which Keith saw as “delivering the universe’s only hope to the universe’s biggest enemy.” When Pidge announced her intent to quit the team to search for her family, Keith blew up at her, berating her for her perceived selfishness and reminding her that “Everyone in the universe has families.” To Keith, the responsibility of being a Paladin means placing the well-being of others above oneself, and accepting that one life might need to be sacrificed to save hundreds. Usually, though, it’s his own life he’s putting on the line… again and again.
Setting: While space travel is hardly new to Keith, being taken from his mission will be difficult for him, and he’s likely to resist settling in at first. Still, once he realizes that the situation is what it is for the time being, he will find ways to cope. After all, being a Paladin is extremely important to Keith; even if he’s without his Lion and has no way to help form Voltron, he still takes his calling to protect the universe very seriously, and will be driven to help others and make himself useful. Most of his skills center around piloting and fighting, so he’s likely to take on any missions he can that utilize those abilities.

[ The feed blinks on, revealing the face of a stern-looking young man staring straight into the camera. This lasts for several seconds, until a flicker in his eyes and a subtle shift in the set of his jaw makes it clear that he turned the feed on without thinking of what he was going to say.
He clears his throat. ]
So, uh. Hi. [ Nailing it. ] I'm Keith. A Paladin of Voltron. I'm... getting the impression that that doesn't mean anything to anyone here, but if we really are being dragged here from all over the universe...
[ Keith trails off with a shrug, letting the statement speak for itself: it's worth a shot. ]
I'm told they're working on sending us back. If anyone knows how to make that happen faster? I can trade for it. I'm a good pilot, and I know my way around a sword. I'll do what I can, I just... need to get back.
Oh. And if anyone's seen a robot lion around, contact me immediately. She's... red. Actually, just — any color is fine. The lion's the important part.
I guess that's all?
[ And with that, he ends the transmission. That's enough public speaking for one day. ]
